Pam Schmelz began the transition from adjunct instructor to Program Chair of a brand new degree with Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus in the fall of 2008. She has taught college-level courses at Axia College of University of Phoenix as well. Schmelz spent almost 10 years in various Information Technology roles at a major engine manufacturer. Her roles included Unix administration, CNC machine programming, shop floor machine support, training, and Lotus Notes development. Pam has always been interested in adult education -in the manufacturing setting she was heavily involved with creating training matrices for various professional roles. She also created and gave training on various topics such as UNIX, how-to for Microsoft Office products, etc. Pam was also instrumental in creating the training for the plant when it switched from a mainframe email system to Lotus Notes. Schmelz also co-owned and operated Shadey Lake Winery in Taylorsville. The winery was in business for four years and then sold out to another winery opening in Whiteland. After the manufacturing and winery careers, she was able to focus fully on teaching and was hired full time to implement the new Information Security degree in Columbus. This degree program is leading-edge, as many schools are just thinking about having an Information Security degree. She is interested in making everyone aware of how important it is to protect their data; both at home and at work. An extra-curricular activity that Schmelz participates in is the Columbus City Band. She has played trumpet with the band since 1993.
