Michaela is a graduate of Ivy Tech Community College, class of 2008–Magna Cum Laude–with a degree in Visual Communication with a concentration in Graphic Design. While pursuing her degree at Ivy Tech, Michaela received an internship at Villing & Company, where she designed business collateral for several companies including Illiana Bank, Elkhart Brass, and Schafer Gear. During her final semester, she worked at Superior Business Solutions as a Graphic Designer.
After graduation, Michaela worked for at Mossberg & Company Inc., South Bend, one of North America’s most respected printing companies. As a Digital Pre-press Technician and Graphic Designer, her responsibilities included ensuring the proper format, appearance, and layout of text and images for various magazines, catalogs, brochures, and packaging materials, before the final print run. She also designed business collateral and in-house posters for Mossberg.
After Michaela’s time at Mossberg, she went on to build a freelance graphic design business. Her clients include University of Notre Dame, The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, ICE Gym, and Ivy Tech Community College Foundation.
Michaela’s artistic talent runs in her family. Her father graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City, which is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious art and design schools in the world. He then started his own ad agency in Connecticut. During that time, Paul Rand, an American art director and graphic designer best known for his corporate logo designs (including ABC, IBM, UPS, and Westinghouse), asked her father to join his agency. Because of his necessity for oversight of his designers, he turned Rand down. Michaela ultimately discovered her passion for design in the fall of 2004, when she enrolled at Ivy Tech.
Michaela is presently teaching Introduction to Computer Graphics, and Typography at Ivy Tech Community College, South Bend.
