Hello, my name is Matthew Howell, and I am located at the Valparaiso campus. After a twenty year career in the food service industry, which culminated with me becoming the general manager of a restaurant training facility for new managers, I returned to school in 2003 to continue my education. I had completed my Associates of Arts degree in Liberal Arts earlier in my life. I graduated magna cum laude in 2005 with my Bachelors of Arts in sociology from the University of Arizona. My background in the food service industry fueled my curiosity regarding, and my sociological investigation of, the production and consumption of food. My Master's Thesis examined the methods of presentation and control of identity and image by restaurant organizations through the medium of the internet. I received my Masters of Arts in sociology from the University of Notre Dame in 2009, and began working as an adjunct instructor at the South Bend campus. I have been employed as the full-time sociology instructor at the Valparaiso campus of Ivy Tech Community College since the fall of 2010, where I also serve as the assistant program chair of the social sciences. |
