My formal education is in Physiology and Biochemistry, having earned B.S. and Ph.D. degrees before completing NIH and Muscular Dystrophy Fellowships at Royal Free Hospital in London and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Following my postdoctoral work, I began a career of drug discovery research with Merrell Dow Research Institute in Cincinnati. After several mergers, the Cincinnati research center was moved to New Jersey, where I became a Distinguished Scientist and US Head of Structural Biology. I have served as adjunct faculty at Union Institute in Cincinnati, the University of Kentucky in Lexington, and the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken. My research has dealt with drug discovery for cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases and cancer. When Sanofi decided to close our research site in New Jersey, I looked back over the years and discovered that the most rewarding times for me were spent mentoring students and guiding young scientists. I chose to take early retirement in 2012 and hope to bring my enthusiasm and experience to help students at Ivy Tech lay a solid foundation for careers in the health professions. |
