Bio:

Doug Vermillion is a lifelong Madison County resident, a retired high school educator, a former newspaper journalist, and a 25-year adjunct faculty member at Ivy Tech. He earned his B.A. degree from Anderson College in 1973 with majors in Political Science and United States History and minors in Education, English, World Civilizations, and Sociology. He was granted his M.A. degree from Ball State University in 1978 with a major in Political Science (primary foci were quantitative data analysis and research methodologies). He was also certified by the Pacific Academy for Advanced Studies Economics Education Seminar (1981-1984). His collegiate teaching credentials also include adjunct faculty service with Indiana University's Department of History, Purdue Polytechnic Department of History, and Anderson University's School of Education. He holds a life Master Teacher license from the Indiana Department of Education. His research interests for more than 50 years include the historical events surrounding the creation and implementation of the United States Constitution and the history and genealogy of his own family. In August 2012 he was cited as a primary research partner by author Peter Brand in Brand's book titled Wyatt Earp Vendetta Posse Rider: The Story of Texas Jack Vermillion. His educational and public service resume includes in part the following: member of the Ball State University U.S. History Visual Instruction Learning Materials (VILM) project (1992) adjunct American History instructor for Indiana University Advance College Project, 1997-2003 member emeritus and president emeritus of Phi Delta Kappa, Chapter 1490, and current member of Phi Delta Kappa International; past member of Sigma Delta Chi, Indiana East Chapter, Society of Professional Journalists, three-term member of the Anderson University Department of Education Advisory Council (1985-1991), former member and past president of Anderson Police Civil Service Merit Commission (1981-1983), former member and three-term secretary of Anderson Community Schools Board of School Trustees (2004-2007), member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association; vice president and member of the executive board of the Madison County Retired Teachers Association, member of four North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools evaluation teams; co-chair of two NCACSS evaluation teams, site-based Management lead teacher of Anderson High School 1995-1997, Social Studies Department chair and School Improvement Team chair for Anderson High School 1990-1997, creator and primary instructor of the Anderson Public Library SAT Preparation Workshop from 1990 to 2004 creator and instructor of the Anderson Public Library Study Skills Seminar for High School and College Students from 1988 to 2004, recipient of the 2007-2008 Adviser of the Year award for Ivy Tech Community College East-Central Region School of Academic Skills Advancement, recipient of the 1987 Best Educator Award for Madison County, Indiana, and 25 years as a student teacher supervisor for Ball State University, Anderson University, and Indiana University.
